TARNISHED GOLD

The Tarnished Gold Association

While at the annual 1984 N.J. Fireman's Convention, Saddle Brook FD was staying at the Blue Waters Motel in Wildwood Crest.  Fire Chief Charles Cerone, while talking with some Ex-Fire Chief's from the department. He made a comment during the conversation that "at least his gold was not tarnished" referring to his Chief's badge. That statement later prompted the Ex-Chief's to form a unique group. The Ex-Chief's decided on the name 'Tarnished Gold Association' of the Saddle Brook Fire Department.

To be eligible to join, a member must have held the position of Fire Chief in Saddle Brook. The application process is very lengthy and is reviewed microscopically by the Association members.  Some applicants have been known to wait years before final approval.

Meetings are held between 1:00 and 2:00pm on the Saturday of the annual convention, each year.  Applicants are voted on at this meeting.  Once approved, the applicant is cordially roasted at the Saturday night dinner.
